Henry Ford Museum Trip

This weekend we’ll be taking a trip to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan. We will depart from the Dock at 8:00 am sharp, so try to be there by 7:45 am! We’ll be back about 6:00 pm and check out the live nativity scene at St. Marks. After that we’ll grab our stuff from the dock and head out to E-Free Church to eat, have the gift exchange, play cards and watch a movie.

What to bring:

ü $11.00 for admission ($15.00 for adults)

ü Sack lunch and drink or $$ to buy lunch at the museum.

ü A wrapped gift for the gift exchange ($5.00 max)

ü $3.00 for pizza (supper)

As always, please dress in your class A uniform for the trip!

The scouts voted to leave for home Saturday night by midnight instead of staying overnight and getting up early. Scouts need picked up at E-Free by 12:00 midnight. E Free is on CR 236 by the Little Red Schoolhouse. If you don’t know where this is, please see a scoutmaster before we leave!

Just a Few Notes

Last week we started work on the Wilderness Survival MB with a look into first aid. We also had some Webelo visitors who had a great time.

Anyone need service hours? St. Mark's annual Live Nativity will be setting up pine trees on November 28. All time will be counted as service hours. Let me know if you are interested with this project.

We will be headed to Dearborn December 5 to visit the Henry Ford Museum.

We will need adults to commit to this day trip. Please let me know of your interest in this event too. I would like to get a count so I can see about getting a group rate. This is open to any Webelo who might want to attend.

We are still working on arrangements for a possible movie and white elephant gift exchange upon returning to Findlay.

Next Monday, I will be conducting SM conferences for those who are about ready for a Board of Review (BOR). With any luck, there will be BORs also conducted next week. Remember, full Class A uniform is required for all BORs.

PLC Discussions

The troop reviewed the campout over the weekend and listed what went right and what they could improve upon:

·        Bring more food

·        Make a duty roster in advance

·        Have a sign in/out list

·        Plan a easier to cook meal for the departing morning breakfast

·        Plan a "WOW" lunch

·        Plan a group activity

·        Let the older scouts cook the harder meals

·        Respect other people’s privacy

·        Take matches

·        Light the lanterns before setting up tents in the dark

Mr. Hunteman said some of the Webelo parents at the campout noticed there was not enough food and they saw 2 of the scouts give up their meals without being asked so the young guys could eat. They were impressed!

Laurel Caverns is closed in December - we may replace this camp out with the Polar Bear or a Webelo event.

The PLC wanted to replace the Wright-Patterson AFB trip in February with a trip to the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, then have a sleep over afterwards. The church is occupied that night. Mr. Bisbee will talk to E-Free to see if the youth area is available. There was also talk of doing this trip on December 5 and having a gift exchange that day. It was left open for further discussion.

·        Suggested movies for the overnighter:

·        Iron Will

·        Remember the Titans

·        Indiana Jones

·        National Treasure

·        October Sky

Scout Jamboree at Camp Berry, November 6-8

We will meet at the DOCK at 5:15 and caravan out to Camp Berry. Please be sure you eat dinner BEFORE you come! PICK UP will be at 10:30am on Sunday @ Camp Berry.

Dress is Full Class A...Shirt, pants, and scarf. What should you bring? A sleeping bag, pillow, Scout Handbook, flashlight, warm clothes, mess kit, eating utensils, rain gear, water bottle, tooth brush, tooth paste, comb, stocking knit hat, watch, and camera. We will need to hike back to our camp site, so pack accordingly.

The Troop will provide the tents. We will cook our food as 2 patrols...the youth patrol and the adult patrol.

The cost:     Boy Scouts and Scouters: $11 (includes both camp fees and food)

Webelos and Parents: $9 each (includes both camp fees and food)

Monies can be paid by check payable to Troop 308 and delivered anytime before we leave on Friday. A current health form is required by everyone who is spending the night...no exceptions.
